Where is pam(8)?

I manage to run into situations where I need to learn more about how
pam works, yet when I do, quite a bit of the documentation is out of date.
References are made to manpages that don't exist.  This is pretty
irritating.  Where do I *really* find out about how pam works and all the
available modules?
