Hello! First: I am quite satisfied with freeBSD 5.0-CURRENT! floppy disk: /dev/fd/0 doesn't function :( my cvsup-date currently used by me: »/usr/sup/src-all/checkouts.cvs:.« says: "F 5 1050359714" in the first row. 14th of April 2003, 22:39 GMT (The same problem at my cousin's, with cvsup from: 18th, if I am not wrong) To use /dev/fd/0 instead of /dev/fd0 I did realize. The Devices /dev/fd/[0-2] are there. crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 22, 0 Apr 28 20:27:30 2003 /dev/fd/0 and so on. trying mounting: ---CUT--- freeHugin:/usr/home/kalten# mount -t msdos /dev/fd/0 /mnt msdosfs: /dev/fd/0: Block device required freeHugin:/usr/home/kalten# ---cut--- strange: crw-r----- 1 root operator 4, 13 Apr 28 18:27:30 2003 /dev/ad0s3 another msdos-fs... but mountable by "-t msdos" next try: »dd if=/dev/fd/0 of=lll« does nothing. No increase in filesize -- simply 0 bytes long. no actifity on floppy-LEDs. the best (and the reason I suppose): out of /var/log/messages instead of (in older times, sorry no 5.0-log found any more -- only 4.7 -- but it had been like this some cvsup-versions earlyer): ---CUT--- Jan 23 19:12:22 freeHugin /kernel: fdc0: <NEC 72065B or clone> at port 0x3f0-0x3f5,0x3f7 irq 6 drq 2 on isa0 Jan 23 19:12:22 freeHugin /kernel: fdc0: FIFO enabled, 8 bytes threshold Jan 23 19:12:22 freeHugin /kernel: fd0: <1440-KB 3.5" drive> on fdc0 drive 0 ---cut--- there now stands (longer version out of /var/log/all.log as atachment): ---CUT--- Apr 28 18:27:49 <kern.crit> freeHugin kernel: fdc0: cmd 3 failed at out byte 1 of 3 ... Apr 28 18:27:49 <kern.crit> freeHugin kernel: fdc0: cmd 3 failed at out byte 1 of 3 ... Apr 28 18:27:49 <kern.crit> freeHugin kernel: fdc0: cannot reserve I/O port range (6 ports) ---cut--- according to "man 4 fdc" I should have a "device fd" beside fdc. The compiler means: "unknown" :). The manpage speaks about /dev/fdN and so on (December 16th, 2001) and BTW: my paralell iomega-ZIP-drive: If I do not have a media in it at boot time, even "camcontrol rescan all" does not help to get /dev/da0s4 created -- only /dev/da0 ist there, "fdisk da0" shows that there is a s4, but even after calling fdisk, the entrance in /dev/ is not being created.
