Grab a copy of /usr/src/tools/tools/ath/athstats and use it to look at the statistics kept by the driver when this happens. They may give a hint but unfortunately I think it's a problem with the anti-noise-immunity (ANI) code in the HAL and I have no time right now to dig into that.
