Dunno if this will help at all but the Alpha -current reference machine in the cluster (beast) seems to be suffering from this same problem. It got stuck on the way down for its daily rebuild/reboot both yesterday and today. I can provide more config info if needed but anyone who would be working on this should be able to get to beast and poke around themselves...
