sysinstall hangs while attempting ftp install

I experience a hard lock within sysinstall (5.0-R)
while attempting an ftp install over a pc card ethernet device (ep driver).

This problem is reprducable with the emergancy shell simply by running
ifconfig ep0 <anything>.

Are pccard installations not supported?
