Rev.1.23 of ata-lowlevel.c broke atapicam on my BP6 system as shown by the enclosed boot -v messages (the system just hangs, apparently waiting for a disk interrupt that never arrives; there seems to be no timeout). The problem seems to be interrupt-related. rev.1.23 of ata-lowlevel.c broke things immediately. Then the new interrupt code mysteriously fixed them. Then the next version of the new interrupt code mysteriously broke them again. The differences may be related to using apic mode. I've been testing other things with all possible combinations of SMP and "device apic" but didn't test all combinations for this bug. Perhaps they aren't spurious. - ioapic0 routing is apparently incomplete at the point where we get these interrupts. However, using the ioapic and the new interrupt code aren't primarily responsible. The problem also occurs with a non-SMP kernel built from kernel sources checked out 1 second after ata-lowlevel.c rev.1.23 was committed and that was a few days before the apic was available for the non-SMP case.
