booting with the old kernel still allows some things te be done, such sysctl. The pccard 
is then also detected correctly (acpi enabled) but the system will drop into single user 
mode saying:".. /bin/sh on /etc/rc terminated abnormally, going to ingle user mode" The 
statfs thing I assume.
