Speaking of diskinfo, I can understand why it cannot measure seek
times on too-small a disk, but why cannot it measure transfer rates?

On my 256M compact flash (Soekris), I get:

anyanka# diskinfo -v -t ad1
ad1
        512 # sectorsize
        257949696 # mediasize in bytes (246M)
        503808 # mediasize in sectors
984 # Cylinders according to firmware.
16 # Heads according to firmware.
32 # Sectors according to firmware.

Seek times:
Full stroke: diskinfo: read error or disk too small for test.: Input/output error
