mplayer compiled without warnings, but broken

bummer.  i read something on the freebsd-questions list about mplayer's
esound dependency breaking it and being fixed soon, however i don't think
this is related...  anyone know if this is known to be broken or is soon
to be fixed?  or is it just me having problems?
