I dare say people aren't aware that one can also create
/etc/rc.conf.d/<package_name> with "<package_name>_enable=yes" in it.

WHY in the world is there even a /usr/local/etc/rc.subr ???
/etc/rc.subr on 5-CURRENT is perfectly fine.
