I added DDB yesterday and installed the kernel. I went
by the FAQ, which didn't mention makeoptions DEBUG=-g.
So I'll add that and remake/reinstall. Thanks.

I did just get another panic, same thing, but it put
me on a DB> prompt that the FAQ didn't mention. From
that prompt, there was no "boot" or "dmesg" command, a
couple of the commands I see mentioned here often.
Scoured the FAQ again and found I should have typed
"panic" (instead I had typed "gdb" (said I had no gdb
port enabled) and then "continue" which did another
panic. After that, another "continue" resulted in a
dump (should be on the swap partition since I did
point dumpdev to that in rc.conf). But this account of
what I did probably won't help unless anyone reading
this is interested in debugging the FAQ ;-).

Next time I'll know to use "panic" instead of
"continue" at the DB> prompt. In the meantime I'll
stop my work and build my kernel again!

BTW, I should emphasize two points: 1) My work is
putting this system under a lot of stress. Probably
several times more stress than something like make
world. 2) On previous releases of FreeBSD, with the
same work load, things worked fine.
