two consistent problems w/ recent kernels: SCHED_ULE and ATA1

Hi y'all,

1.	When I build a kernel with SCHED_ULE, the boot hangs at where I've indicated in the dmesg below. No trap, no dump, just hang. So I must use _4BSD. It is very easily recreatable: this is the only change I've made to my custom kernel.

2.	We removed an older LG CD-ROM drive which came with the IBM 300PL PC I'm using. We replaced it with a newer LG 'Combo' drive that can read DVD and also read & burn CDs (this happens to be the exact model Apple had been installing). When we booted, and every time since then, we're getting 30 seconds' worth of the following line on the console and in the dmesg shown below:
		ata1-slave: stat=0x01 err=0x00 lsb=0x00 msb=0x00
This started precisely when we put the newer drive in; the older drive never caused this problem. I've checked to make sure it is jumpered as 'master only' on the 2nd ATA channel. And both LG drives have their respective current firmware, according to their website at www.lgservice.com. The PC itself has IBM's latest SurePath BIOS. Everything should be current as far as I can find.
After the 30-second timeout, the system comes on up fine. And the newer LG drive functions fine when reading CDs & DVDs; I've yet to try burning something.

I'm tracking -Current via CTM, downloading the deltas from the FTP site. The kernel & world are current as of the deltas available by Monday 25 Jan. 2004. I understand the CTM site is being moved to another machine, so I've been unable to get any deltas since then. The political firewall here won't let us do CVSup thru it, so I'm stuck as far as being up-to-date with latest patches.

I'll attach the dmesg and custom kernel below.

# DEVICE_POLLING adds support for mixed interrupt-polling handling
# of network device drivers, which has significant benefits in terms
# of robustness to overloads and responsivity, as well as permitting
# accurate scheduling of the CPU time between kernel network processing
# and other activities. The drawback is a moderate (up to 1/HZ seconds)
# potential increase in response times.
# It is strongly recommended to use HZ=1000 or 2000 with DEVICE_POLLING
# to achieve smoother behaviour.
# Additionally, you can enable/disable polling at runtime with the
# sysctl variable kern.polling.enable (defaults off), and select
# the CPU fraction reserved to userland with the sysctl variable
# kern.polling.user_frac (default 50, range 0..100).

# Only the "dc" "fxp" and "sis" devices support this mode of operation at
