I reverted sys/conf/files.i386 to 1.495, sys/modules/fdc/Makefile to 
1.8, sys/dev/fdc/fdc.c to 1.273, ie to the state before your 07/07 
commit, and now it works.

I will be out of touch for 2 weeks, and cannot test your patch now.
