That *is* strange!

Myself, on amd64 3200+ with nForce3 chipset (snd_ich driver), I'm still
running into the "pcm0:play:0: play interrupt timeout, channel dead"
problem. Sound works fine after a reboot, but inevitably dies sooner
or later.

If anyone can offer a suggestion as to how to obtain some useful
debugging info for this issue, I'd be happy to provide whatever I can.

Could the fact that pcm0 and fxp0 are sharing an IRQ have anything to
do with this? If so, how might I go about separating them?

I haven't seen any further mention of this issue lately. Is anyone
actively engaged in trying to solve it at this time?
