The telnet LINEMODE option (which is apparently implemented using EXTPROC in the tty driver) is used for more than X.25 emulation. For random (usually old) hosts that do not perform remote-echo of keystrokes, telnet linemode make interaction much more pleasent over long-delay paths. It used to be that even logging into a UNIX box could use the LINEMODE option when the remote tty was in cooked mode. louieReceived on Fri Jun 11 2004 - 22:04:40 UTC
