Problem with smart-2/e controller

When I boot the FreeBSD installer (from cd or floppy)
I get the following error:

-----

The error is pretty much the same on 4.x and 5.x
releases
When I remove the smart-2/e card the errors do not
occur (however I am unable, of course, to access my
drives)
The card works fine in SuSE, Redhat, Slackware (I
believe) and Windows, so I do not think it's a
hardware failure (plus the array diagnostics pass
clean)

Any ideas?
