5.3: problems with external USB cdrom

Hi!

I cannot use the external USB CD/DVD drive (SAMSUNG SN-324F)
on a Dell laptop D400 running 5.3 STABLE (the same device worked
just fine on 4.9)
I am aware this issue (or similar ones) has been brought up
in the mailing list already, but I couldn't find
a solution in the archives this time.

When attaching the drive I get the following messages:

        umass0: Dell USB Drive A01, rev 2.00/1.04, addr 2
umass0: Get Max Lun not supported (STALLED)
        umass0: Phase Error, residue = 0
        umass0: Phase Error, residue = 0
        umass0: Phase Error, residue = 0
        umass0: Phase Error, residue = 0
        umass0: Phase Error, residue = 0

and detaching it I get:

        umass0: at uhub1 port 2 (addr 2) disconnected
        umass0: detached

I understand from the mail by Paul Koch (Sep 6,2004 "5.3 BETA3
testing / feedback" ) that it should be possible to get the device
working by "adding some quirks", could anyone be more specific?

Cheers,

Remo
