vmware 3.x broken on FreeBSD 5.x / 6.x with IDE devices

Hi,

Since FreeBSD 5.2.1 we get the following error:

It looks like ad0 gets disconnected by vmware.
It is still not clear how this can happen. Of
course this leads to a deadlock if ad0 is the
root disk.
