Please add http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=bin/46866 to the
list of showstopper bugs. This passwd inconsistence "user there this
minute, gone the next minute" without touching the user data base has
been bouncing mail and wreaking havoc for much too long already.

All that is needed is that interfaces that cannot communicate a
temporary failure and do not fail when used without NIS (such as
getpw*()) retry forever until they can offer a permanent result.
