Dozens of warnings after boot saying foo not configured

After boot basically every item in rc.conf warns its not configured. I 
didn't count them all but they might even contain the entrys in 
/etc/default/rc.conf  I think I caused this somehow, but I don't know 
how, or how to fix it.  Any ideas?
