dhclient with non present devices

Hi,

on the way to find a solution for getting dhclient to fetch ips for my 
wireless nic I found the option "-w". This option should cause dhclient 
not to exit when the device isn't present at load. However this doesn't 
work. Dhclient still says ath0: not found... is this a bug?
