Robert, i think it is because it was too warm in Cambridge last week;
the GPS in the notebook thinks it is in britain and it is January,
so it turns on the hidden x1.5 overclocking mode that CPU manufacturers
have to perform well in benchmarks. This setting is not under control
of ACPI, which indeed tries to cool down the CPU by turning the fan ON,
and possibly throttling the clock (which however is faster than
ACPI believes).
