Tried Safe mode with 6.0-RC1 (no boot menu so had to read beastie.4th to
figure out how to do that):

(loader)
set hint.acpi.0.disabled = 1
set loader.acpi_disabled_by_user = 1
set hint.apic.0.disabled = 1
set hw.ata.ata_dma = 0
set hw.ata.atapi_dma = 0
set hw.ata.wc = 0
#set hw.eisa_slots = 0 (forgot to type this one... I'll try again with
it in)

and get exactly the same errors.

Also tried 5.4-RELEASE CD booted in safe mode:

acd0: CDRW <CREATIVE CD-RW RW8439E/1R09> at ata1-master PIO4
ad4: FAILURE - ATA_IDENTIFY timed out
ad4: FAILURE - ATA_IDENTIFY timed out
