It didn't work:

# fsck_msdosfs /dev/da0s1
** /dev/da0s1
Can't open (Device not configured)

and from time to time I see this on the console:

umass0: BBB reset failed, TIMEOUT
umass0: BBB bulk-in clear stall failed, TIMEOUT
umass0: BBB bulk-out clear stall failed, TIMEOUT
