Consoles go blank after loading X with GM965

From: Don Hinton <hintonda_at_gmail.com>

Hi:

I have an Intel GM965 SVGA adapter, and when I load snd_hda in
/boot/loader.conf, I loose the ability to ctrl-alt-fn to any of my
consoles after starting xfce--I have keyboard, but the console screens
goes blank. This happens on both 7.0-current and 6.2-stable, and with
a plain startx, kde, and xfce.

However, if I wait to load snd_hda until after apci gets loaded (which
seems to be the only thing that matters), I don't have the problem,
i.e., I can ctrl-alt-fn to other consoles. The only other odd thing
is that I compiled vesa into the kernel, and see VESA: set_mode():
24(18) -> 24(18) written to the console everytime I switch from X.

I don't have any idea what's going on, but figured passing this along
might help someone more knowledgable.

thanks...
don
