K8 is Family 0Fh, the next major architecture is Family 10h. *THAT* is what is important to software optimization. All the various AMD K8 core names (Italy, Venice, San Diego, Manchester, ...)[*]. *Possibly* the "hammer" core names, could be very slightly useful, but I'm not convinced at that. [*] not even the AMD's own software optimization folks know or use these marketing dreamed up names.
