I appreciate it. Just for the documentation of it all -- I messed up by putting my language setting under the "default:" catagory in /etc/login.conf. I needed to ALSO create a separate "me:" catagory like so: me:\ :tc=default: I suppose the real moral to the story is: be very careful what you overwrite during mergemaster.
