That's why I'm going to get 5.x, 6.x or 7.x running first. I'm pretty 
confident that one of those did work quite wel.

The board did have some bad temperament when amd64 first got started, it was 
one of the first dual opteron MSI boards at that time. Then it took a while 
to get going as well.
