I guess that's ok, though. You didn't explain whether you had / mounted read-only or read-write. Also, it probably matters how you got into single-user mode ("shutdown now" vs. option 4 from boot2). Also, the fact that it's mounted might be the issue. I'm not sure I would claim this as "broken", although I can't see any reason a read-only mount is prevented from tuning (at least changing the volume name). -- Rick C.
