you may want to use a serial console (if your notebook is old enough to still 
have a serial port ...), by adding the following line to /boot/loader.conf :
-%------------------------
console="comconsole"
-%------------------------

PS : if there is no serial port, you may want to use a firewire port (or else, 
use a camera to take a picture of the screen, when you have the panic 
message)
