It turned out, surprise I never realized this, that the EeePC has the same problem, but the other way around: only the internal mic is recording and the jack does not. Per default both mic (nid 24 and 25) are in association 2: hdac0: nid 24 0x01a19820 as 2 seq 0 Mic Jack jack 1 loc 1 color Pink misc 8 hdac0: nid 25 0x99a3092f as 2 seq 15 Mic Fixed jack 3 loc 25 color Unknown misc 9 I'm attaching both verbose messages of hdac, maybe some snd_hda(4) expert understands from the diff of both what the problem in both is.
