Removing -O0 from CFLAGS it builds fine. Am I doing something
wrong?

I added CFLAGS+=-O0 on /etc/make.conf, and

# cd /usr/src/lib/libc
# make clean && make clean && make cleandir
# make obj
# make depend
# make
