When you set CPUTYPE?=native, bsd.cpu.mk doesn't set MACHINE_CPU to the correct values for your CPUTYPE. See http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=conf/112997 for a patch to bsd.cpu.mk.
