Build xorg-server without hal support... install hald for virtualbox. Everything still works as it should... In the meantime, someone should probably write a devd<->udisks[12] translation daemon.. for things like gnome, kde, xfce, and virtualbox, which have the udisks linuxisms can actually continue to work in the future..
