So... as advertisd, I cleaned things up (rather explicitly), rebuilt
world & kernel, installed kernel & world... and the panic recurred.

I have a fresh(er) crash dump; I've placed a copy of core.txt.4 in
<http://www.catwhisker.org/~david/FreeBSD/head/>.
