I just built/installed world of 3 12 2016 ( thankfully...) though not on the usual desktop, but a similar one. [1] single-user [2]GENERIC crashed to gdb during dmesg... fix: custom kernel as-it-was-a-year-ago (no debugging, no sound) rebuilt with the new world, works fine including new nvidia.ko... although nothing added to the custom kernel to account for GENERIC/GENERIC diffs... six months or a year or so...
