Sorry, pre-coffee. I don't think the issue I had in mind there (OpenZFS 
uses /etc/zfs/zpool.cache instead of /boot/zfs/zpool.cache, we added a 
fallback) explains your problem.

Did you install openzfs from the pkg repo?
