FWIW, the laptop shipped with Ubuntu. I just built HardenedBSD 13-CURRENT install media from HardenedBSD commit 4fd20919a535d41571f0b4140a6ec953f1bb38b2 and that booted fine. I used the latest FreeBSD snapshot image, so I wonder what changed between that snapshot image and today that would allow it to boot.
