ACPI timeout on shutdown

Hello list,

Ever since upgrading my hardware I haven't been able to use shutdown -p now 
successfully. One my old motherboard I used to use APM to have the computer 
powerdown. Now on my new motherboard APM or ACPI won't work.

When the computer attempts to powerdown with ACPI it get a timeout and fails 
and then informs me to press any key to reboot or simply turn off the box. 
The same basicly happens when I push the power button except instead of 
halting the machine reboots.
