Snippets from /var/log/XFree86.0.log:

(II) ATI: ATI driver (version 6.4.18) for chipsets: ati, ativga
(--) RADEON(0): Chipset: "ATI Radeon VE/7000 QY (AGP)" (ChipID = 0x5159)
(II) Loading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/radeon_drv.o
(II) Module radeon: vendor="The XFree86 Project"
        compiled for 4.3.0, module version = 4.0.1
        Module class: XFree86 Video Driver
ABI class: XFree86 Video Driver, version 0.6

(II) RADEON(0): [drm] loaded kernel module for "radeon" driver
(II) RADEON(0): Direct rendering enabled

Hmm... but I also just realized that I added the following to my kernel
config many moons ago:

nooption DDB
nooption INVARIANTS
nooption INVARIANT_SUPPORT
nooption WITNESS
nooption WITNESS_SKIPSPIN

Is it possible that's not helping?
