Still not working here, I'm afraid.

Mine's the NEC DVD which reports on the 5.2.1 generic kernel as:

acd0: DVDR <_NEC DVD_RW ND-1300A> at ata1-slave PIO4

But I just tried the -current as of 2004/08/04 13:30 GMT and it
still doesn't boot beyond the probe of the ata devices. Boot with
the DVD unplugged and I get:

ad0: 38166MB <WDC WD400BB-00DEA0/05.03E05> [77545/16/63] at ata0-master UDMA100
ad1: 238475MB <WDC WD2500JB-00EVA0/15.05R15> [484521/16/63] at ata0-slave UDMA100
ata1-master: DMA limited to UDMA33, non-ATA66 cable or device
ad2: 32253MB <Maxtor 54610H6/JAC61HU0> [65531/16/63] at ata1-master UDMA33
SMP: AP CPU #1 Launched!
Mounting root from ufs:/dev/ad0s1a

Boot it with the DVD powered, and I get:

ad0: 38166MB <WDC WD400BB-00DEA0/05.03E05> [77545/16/63] at ata0-master UDMA100
ad1: 238475MB <WDC WD2500JB-00EVA0/15.05R15> [484521/16/63] at ata0-slave UDMA100
ATAPI_RESET time = 30us
ata1-master: DMA limited to UDMA33, non-ATA66 cable or device
ad2: 32253MB <Maxtor 54610H6/JAC61HU0> [65531/16/63] at ata1-master UDMA33
... and it hangs...

Note that I do NOT get the ATAPI_RESET message when the DVD isn't present.
