I'd probably replace the drives by a different make or at least model; the earlier 36 GB Raptors at any rate - check storagereview.com why. Checking/improving drive cooling may be worthwhile though. > We switched to the slightly more expensive ICP Vortex controllers in our > new machines and will be replacing the old 3wares in the older > machines. Does replacing the adaptor help when the drives lock up? I doubt that. My ancient Micropolis 4345WS drive in a test computer w/ FreeBSD 4.X locks up randomly regardless of the SCSI adaptor (no RAID), I've tried three different chips, Tekram DC-390 (AMD 53C974), DC-390U (SYM53C875), Adaptec 2940UW Pro (AIC 7880) - the problem remains. Must be the drive then in my case. -- Matthias AndreeReceived on Wed Dec 22 2004 - 11:36:22 UTC
