To first answer your questions above for context: Yes, I'm using RAID 1 (mirroring, confirmed in the BIOS) and the RAID is enabled. I can actually test this by booting back into the 5.1 CDs and loading the module off of the floppy I have from the vendor for that version. I tried Safe Mode after your recommendation and that did not appear to solve the problem.
