The hardware tests did all succeed with no errors.

I applied your patch and the machine behaves much better now.
For example, before the patch it did panic during simple things as
kernel-compile, or copying large directory trees (both in single-user mode).

With the patch I could successfully perform such tasks. I am
confident, that this patch solved a great deal of problems.

I will boot the machine now into multiuser and see if it is still stable
under regular load. Since you said the problems could have been triggered
with the recent PREEMPTION changes, I am not sure if all my problems
are solved, since IIRC the problems started with a kernel before this
change. It became definitly worse after that, though.
