In the moment the opposite is the case and geom_vinum opens /dev/da1s1 in that situation :-( I don't know, if, when opening /dev/da1s1a for writing, GEOM triggers a spoil event as well because GEOM *is aware* that da1s1a is in fact the same as da1s1c resp. da1s1.
