glxgears

After moving from -stable to -current recently, I noticed that glxgears 
is more than 50% faster in -current.  My kernel options have not 
changed, and it's not dri (i915 doesn't work yet).  Has anyone else 
noticed a similar speed increases in X?  Any idea why?
