I've had the same issue here... instead of trying to read the TOC and 
ripping the DVD directly from /dev/acd0, first mount the DVD under 
/cdrom, then go to the preferences panel and change both "DVD device" 
and "DVD mount point" to /cdrom. This should solve your problem.
