I am running eclipse-devel on 7.0-BETA4 amd64, but I had increase the amount 
of memory allowed for eclipse. Also, I am running "native" jdk-1.5, not 
diablo.

I added/changed these in eclipse.ini:
-Xmx512m
-XX:MaxPermSize=256m

Yes, eclipse is memory hungry :)
