Yes, I had to disable firewire on an AMD785/Phenom board to be able to
boot 8.0b2/amd64 or 7.2/amd64.

On another machine, an older Thinkpad R51 which also comes with a
firewire port, I installed 8.0b2/i386 without a problem:

It does not panic, it just keeps showing this message every 60 seconds.

I built a kernel without firewire, reenabled firewire in the BIOS and
tested:

# kldload firewire
...
# kldload sbp
...

I'll attach the dmesg.
