Can you reproduce the problem with WITNESS and INVARIANTS enabled?
It's probably a deadlock, and WITNESS is quite good at identifying
potential deadlocks.

WITNESS sends its output to the console, so make sure that you're
watching it as you try to reproduce the freeze.
